DIY - Lego head pillow

Great gift idea for Lego fans. 

You will need: 

  • Yellow material (eg minky material)
  •  Glue for textiles,
  •  sequins,
  • Black felt (I ordered felt rings on Aliexpress.com . They were in white, but I painted them with black nail varnish)
  • Needle or sewing machine, scissors, white thread

 I drew the shape of a lego head on the half folded material (inside out), sewed it, left space for turning it right side out). 



Turned it right side out. Then stuffed it with the cotton wool (although I recommend to try other materials, such as silicone balls). I sewed the hole. I made eyes from felt  (Glued it with with textile glue), and the smile using the sequins. Unfortunately it came out a bit uneven, so next time I'll try to use a black material.

Self-hypnosis for alcoholism


If you or your family member suffer from alcoholism, try recording this text. Listening to it at least once a week may help to deal with the need to reach for alcohol.  


Sit down on a chair and relax.  Close your eyes and take a deep breath. With every breath you can feel your body becoming relaxed more and more..

Now become aware of your feet… now relax your calfs...  let  your knees and hips grow more and more comfortable… let the muscles become loose and limp and even more relaxed... Relax your waist... .. chest... arms.. Now you can feel less tension  in your neck and face.. nice warm feeling in your closed eyelids. You aren't able to open our eyes. All your worries drift away.  The heat wave flows through your body.. you can feel it on your face again, then neck.. arms.. chest.... waist.. down through your hips.. and calfs.. and toes.. All your worries flew away..

Now visualise number 100... wipe it off your memory.. now 99.... wipe it off.. 98.... wipe it off.. [ 97.. 96.. .etc.. - down to 1]

Now imagine a big blackboard in front of you.. Come closer and write down letter "Z"... and erase it now... Write down letter "Y."... erase it.. Letter "X"... erase it.. [...etc. untill you reach "A" ]. You are now completely relaxed..

Now imagine yourself at the top of the stairs. A few steps away you can see a big door. Touch the railing .. feel the touch of wood under your fingers .. slowly come down to the tenth step .. Now the ninth .. feel the soft carpet under your feet.. Eight ... seven ... six ..  .. . fifth .. fourth ... third ... ..  second.. and  the first .. you're already on a lower floor, now approaching the door .. Reach the handle ..  open the door ...  sunlight warms your face, ... you can feel safe and peaceful now ... walk into a room ... it's your quiet place where you can do what you want .. . Stand in the middle of the room.. design it how you wish.. and now sit somewhere and listen closely to your own inner voice...

I feel relaxed and calm, I do not need to reach for alcohol to improve my mood. I have decided that I will no longer drink. From today I no longer feel the need to reach for alcohol. I have the strength to stay away from it . Alcohol has no power over me, I feel the rush of strong will. Every time I see alcohol I feel strong disgust.

Now slowly I will count from 5 to 1 and when you hear "1", you will wake up fresh, happy and with positive energy. 5... 4...3...2...1... Open your eyes and start your day with the smile on your face". 

Self-hypnosis for depression and alcoholism

Another common problem that you can deal with using hypnosis is depression. As you know, it is hard to cope with this condition because depressive people lack motivation. However, if you manage to encourage them to attend a hypnotic session, this is the first step in changing your attitude to your life and motivating yourself to stay positive.  If you reading it, because you suffer for depression, you can try hypnosis on yourself.  Record the text below (or ask your friend to do it if you don't like your own voice). I am programing myself so that only positive thoughts come to my mind. My thoughts are cheerful and constructive. I do not let any external factor dictate how I feel.  I am in control of the situation, I decide that I want to feel happy, important and valuable. Every day I feel the surge of happiness from the minor situations that happen to me . Negative thoughts quickly flow away from me, I can feel that they no longer affect me. I appreciate every moment of my life, and all the difficulties I overcome easly. Nothing can break me. "

Now I will slowly  count from 5 to 1 and when you hear "1", you will wake up fresh, happy and with positive energy. 5... 4...3...2...1... Open your eyes and start your day with the smile on your face".




Biofeedback in sports

The majority of our body's processes is not under our control but has great influence on your performance - phisical or cognitive. To perform at peak level you need to learn to control your reactions to stress and under pressure. The mind and body are connected. Biofeedback method helps to synchronise your mind and body by providing information about the biological processes, then teaching you how to control them - for example muscle tention, heart rate, respiration rate, brain waves. You gradually learn to control and alter phisiological behaviour.

Biofeedback method


Biofeedback method was developed for NASA’s Space Flight Center.

NASA trained their lunar Astronauts to control their brain,s SMR rhythms. Fifty years later, neurofeedback is still part of the Astronaut training programme. What is EEG Biofeedback?


Your brain emits bioelectrical activity that the EEG Biofeedback equipment reads through

electrodes attached to your head, then a computer program analyzes the recorded brain

waves.

During the biofeedback training, you modify the activity of your brain just with the

power of your mind, creating new neural connections. You can correct your level of

attention and arousal and optimize your psychophysiological state. This is possible thanks

to the extraordinary plasticity of the human brain - under the influence of environmental

stimuli it can make lasting changes in the synapses and neural networks. As a result, the

whole body functions are improved.

The brain remembers and recreates these reactions which are rewarded, seeks further

rewards by optimizing its work. To change the functioning of the cerebral cortex you only

need to train one or two areas, then other areas change their excitability of neuronal

connections too!

The most basic EEG rhythms that we analyze in the therapy are: delta (the slowest), theta,

alpha and beta (fastest). DELTA waves are produced during deep sleep, THETA when

you are half-asleep or meditate, ALPHA when you are completely relaxed , BETA when

you are focused. The excitation or high stress produces brain waves of even higher

frequencies. During the EEG Biofeedback training, we strive to learn self-regulation

of these waves, so that you can maintain the newly formed habit also after finishing

the therapy.


The effectiveness of therapy EEG Biofeedback


The effectiveness of method depends on individual capabilities and of course, the

patient,s motivation and support from the family. The difficulties do not disappear straight

away and you need to be aware of this.

The first research on the method of EEG biofeedback was conducted at the

University of San Francisco in 1958, later NASA (1972), proved that we are able to

increase the amplitude of the brain waves only with willpower.

- In the study by Monastry (2002) it has been shown that positive changes in ADHD

patients treated with EEG biofeedback persisted even after they stopped using the Ritalin

drug. In the group that used only Ritalin, symptoms relapsed one week after

discontinuation of the drug.


American pediatricians (American Academy of Pediatrics, 2012) placed Biofeedback on

the list of the most effective therapeutic methods to help with attention deficits and

hyperactivity.


-Tansey (1993) and Lubar (2003) have shown that patients were able to maintain the

ability to control their hyperactivity up to 10 years after training.

- Rosenfelf, Baehr (2001) demonstrated improvement in depressed patients treated with

Biofeedback therapy. Positive changes persisted for five years.

- Rice et al. (1993) demonstrated improvement in patients with anxiety disorders.

- Peniston and Kulkosky proven to improve the condition of people with PTSD (after 30

sessions neurobiofeedback).


EEG Biofeedback does not eliminate the complex developmental disorder of the nervous

system (eg. ADHD, dyslexia, autism, Asperger), but significantly improves the functioning


of a person suffering from these disorders.

Hypnobirthing, hypnosis for labor



I've read a lot about hypnobirthing and I have used hypnosis in my life with great success..  That's why I thought about using it myself to ease the pain while giving birth. I would like to share my idea how to do it yourself at home, without help of a hypnotherapist. I wrote it myself inspired by articles and books about hypnosis and tried to use phrases that won't do any harm. But remember consult your doctor before trying it, just in case.  

You should record the text below and listen to it while you are pregnant - once a day or every second day.
Speak slowly with a normal tone of voice while you record. You can add some nice relaxing music in the background ( I just play some music from laptop while i read the instructions). 
Then when you go in labor, just count 10 do 1 and relax! At least that's what I'm gonna try to..
BTW : English isn't my native language, so please correct any possible mistakes ;)

I do not have the fear of childbirth, I feel safe. Childbirth is a natural process through which my body will go without a hitch. It will be quick and almost painless, like an ordinary menstrual pain ... At the appropriate time I will Relax, reducing the level of adrenaline in my body, breathing evenly and rhythmically. I will let the natural mechanisms in my body do their job. During the contraction I am relaxed and peaceful, I concentrate on my body and my child. Natural oxytocin and endorphins are released in accordance with the progress of labor, facilitating its course. My body inhibits the secretion of adrenaline, so I am calm and relaxed ... I feel strong and powerful ...On the day of the birth, I will feel the happiness, joy and peace, and when labor starts I count from 10 to 1 .. I will come immediately into a state of relaxation and will remain there as long as I want. My relaxed body will work with the natural power of labor, providing comfort to me and my child. 

The next time you listen to the recording, fall into an even deeper state of relaxation. Suggestions you hear, will fall in your memory even stronger than it have today. In a moment you will wake up, when you open your eyes, you'll be relaxed, smiling, full of energy. I'll count now from 1 to 5. When I get to the digit 5, open your eyes and you will feel great .. 1 .. 2..3..4..5. ".

Art therapy, how to play with your kids



The idea of art therapy is that art-making process is useful in therapeutic. Calms children down (and adults too!), helps to increase self-esteem, helps to express feelings, traumas.
The art techniques that we use should be easy for the patient (or child at home, if you are a parent). So even someone who isn't talented, can create it. It's what makes the person believe in herself/himself. That feeling of creating something beautiful yourself, gives you cofidence, power.
That's why it's great to invite your child for mini-art-classes at home.
Besides having fun and improving skills, you create special bond with your kid. Which is very important and often forgotten in those times when adults are busy with their careers.

Here are some examples, what to do with your kid in your free time. You don't even any need special materials, just stuff that you have at home and your imagination.

LADY BIRD MADE FROM PAPER PLATES 


All you need is:
- crayons, glue , brown colored paper (for legs). 
'The Ladybird's head could have been cut out of paper and stuck outside the plate, but this is a lazy-version ;) 

BIRD MADE FROM NAPKINS




Draw a bird on a thick paper, cut out a small rectangle in the middle. Then fold your napkin in a shape of some kind of fan.. Drag it through a hole. Decorate the bird. 

RECYCLING THE WRAPPING PAPER





You need: wrapping paper, glue, marker, paper
Draw some contour (in my photo its christmas theme). Then cut wrapping paper into small pieces.  Stick it to the paper carefully, remembering about the outline. 

GARLAND MADE FROM OLD PLASTIC BOTTLES


Gather couple of plastic bottles, cut of the bottoms. You can decorate them with some glitter. Then connect each of them with a string (Drill small holes with the scissors, for the string) . 

ANIMALS MADE OF TOILET PAPER ROLLS



Collect leftovers from paper rolls - then wrap it with colored paper, add some details and create funny animals.
